This morning the students of IC Kennedy gathered in the school canteen for the official presentation of the Euroknitters Project. The coordinator, Martina Coliva, illustrated the different steps of the project, telling the students about the various activities in which they will take part in the next two years.
Videos about the four partner countries were shown to curious students, who then watched the promotional video and the presentation of the TV channel and were enthusiastic to see their mates acting as speakers and reporters.
When Martina talked about the mobilities, the students were very excited at the idea of travelling to a foreign country, meeting friends speaking other languages and having the opportunity to be with them at home and at school during a whole week.
During the presentation, it was made clear that everybody, not only the children who are going to travel abroad, will have an active part in the project, as actors in the theatre play, as correspondents in the news, as promoters of their country. Each student will learn some Greek, Estonian, Portuguese and Spanish, and everybody will be able to improve their knowledge of the English language.
Students and teachers started to make the first edition of “Euroknitters TVchannel” that will be ready before the end of December. The TVchannel’s directress, the newsman, the newswoman in the studio and the reporters introduced themselves and the topics too: news about Italy and Reggio Emilia, school events, sports and the weather forecast too! “Thanks, it was a fantastic experience!”…these the words of one of the students involved in the video: collaboration, good spirits, enthusiasm…are the ingredients that will characterize this work during the next months. The parents of the kids who take part in the project at the presentation meeting with the teachers and the Principal of our school. Parents could see the project’s website, the promotional video, and learnt about the mobilities which will allow the kids and their teachers to travel to the partner countries.
The Euroknitters project officially started with the first Transnational Meeting which was held in Reggio Emilia from the 8th to the 10th November. Our school hosted teachers from Portugal, Spain, Greece, Estonia. The project, funded by the European Union, is part of the Erasmus + Programme.
The coordinators of the five schools which are part of the project had the opportunity to present their schools and to learn about the partner ones, they also worked to plan the activities which will involve pupils, teachers and families in the next two years. Bearing in mind the project’s motto – work and cooperate together to unite Europe – the participants thought about the best strategies to achieve the objectives of the project and, in front of a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, they started thinking about the dates of the mobilities and they collaborated to fix technical and bureaucratic aspects.
It was a great opportunity for the city of Reggio Emilia to welcome other European teachers and show them educational contexts, but also historical landmarks and to offer a taste of the local food.
The first transnational event was the election of the logo which was broadcasted live on the Euroknitters Youtube channel. It was exciting to see the five schools knitting together while the voteswere counted and the winner was proclaimed.
